Torch Literary Arts presents the Wildfire Reading Series featuring Icess Fernandez Rojas.  A Q&A and book signing will follow the reading.

Icess Fernandez is an educator, writer, and a former journalist. She is a graduate of Goddard College’s MFA program and the University of Houston. Her work has been internationally published in Queen Mobs Lit Journal, Poetry 24, Rabble Lit, Minerva Rising Literary Journal, and the Feminine Collective’s anthology Notes from Humanity. Her Houston-based story, “Happy Hunting”, was published in the Houston Noir anthology.

Her nonfiction/memoir work has appeared in Dear Hope, NBCNews.com, HuffPost and the Guardian. She is a recipient of the Owl of Minerva Award, a VONA/Voices of Our Nation Arts Foundation alum, a Dos Brujas Workshop alum, Yale Writers Workshop alum, and a Kimbilio Fellow. Her first poetry collection, The Opposite of Breathing is Cement, was published by Four Palaces Publishing. She is currently finishing her memoir, Problematic.

Torch Literary Arts is a 501(c)3 nonprofit organization established to publish and promote creative writing by Black women. We publish contemporary writing by experienced and emerging writers alike. TORCH has featured work by Colleen J. McElroy, Tayari Jones, Sharon Bridgforth, Crystal Wilkinson, Patricia Smith, Natasha Trethewey, Elizabeth Alexander, and others. Programs include the Wildfire Reading Series, writing workshops, and retreats.
